Reinstall from the existing Podfile and Podfile.lock when generated integration is stale; do not use pod update just to rebuild the Pods project.

Try these fixes in order

01

Check project files

Confirm Podfile and Podfile.lock are the intended versions and note any uncommitted project changes.

02

Use the correct command

Run install from the directory containing Podfile. The clean-install flag bypasses incremental installation cache when that feature is enabled.

pod install --clean-install
03

Open the workspace

After install, open the generated .xcworkspace, not just the app .xcodeproj.

04

Inspect the diff

Review Podfile.lock and project changes. If versions changed unexpectedly, find the dependency rule or missing lockfile that caused it.

Interpret what you see

Podfile.lock exists and versions should remain fixed

What it suggests: The goal is to regenerate integration, not upgrade dependencies.

Next check: Run pod install --clean-install when incremental installation is enabled, then review the lockfile diff.

Xcode cannot find Pods headers after install

What it suggests: The project may be opened without the generated workspace.

Next check: Open the .xcworkspace and check the generated build configuration references.

The lockfile changes unexpectedly

What it suggests: The dependency declaration or lockfile state differs from the intended commit.

Next check: Review the Podfile and Git diff before accepting a new version graph.

Why this happens

  • Generated Pods integration is stale.
  • The project was opened without its CocoaPods workspace.

Still not working?

Do not delete Podfile.lock or invoke pod update unless dependency versions truly need to change.
