Xcode archive missing dSYM files

Check the archive’s debug information settings and whether a binary framework supplies symbols.

Check the archive’s debug information settings and whether a binary framework supplies symbols.

Try these fixes in order

01

Identify affected binary

Read the warning for the exact framework UUID and architecture.

02

Inspect build setting

For your targets, check Debug Information Format for Release uses DWARF with dSYM File.

03

Inspect archive

Compare the archive dSYMs with bundled frameworks; third-party vendors may need to provide matching symbols.

04

Rebuild and upload

Create a new archive with correct settings and retain its symbols for crash reports.

Interpret what you see

The warning names your app target

What it suggests: Its Release debug information setting may not generate a dSYM.

Next check: Check DWARF with dSYM File and inspect the new archive’s dSYMs folder.

It names a third-party framework UUID

What it suggests: The app build cannot invent matching symbols for a vendor binary.

Next check: Request the dSYM for that exact binary version and UUID from its distributor.

Local archive has symbols but uploaded crash reports do not

What it suggests: The symbols may not have been uploaded or matched to that build.

Next check: Keep the original archive and compare UUIDs before reuploading symbols.

Why this happens

  • The target did not generate distribution symbols.
  • A binary dependency lacks matching dSYM files.

Still not working?

A third-party binary’s dSYM must match its exact UUID. Rebuilding the app cannot generate symbols for an unavailable vendor binary.
