xcodebuild cannot find a matching destination
Compare the command’s platform, simulator name, and OS with destinations available to the active Xcode and scheme.
Compare the command’s platform, simulator name, and OS with destinations available to the active Xcode and scheme.
Try these fixes in order
List available destinations
Run xcodebuild -showdestinations with the same workspace/project and scheme to see supported destinations.
xcodebuild -showdestinations -scheme MyApp -project MyApp.xcodeprojCheck active Xcode
Confirm xcode-select points to the intended Xcode installation and that its platform runtime is installed.
Correct the specifier
Use the exact device ID or a matching platform, name, and OS; CI images may use a different simulator list.
Inspect scheme support
Ensure the target supports the platform and deployment version you requested.
Interpret what you see
Requested simulator is absent from showdestinations
What it suggests: The runner lacks that runtime or uses another Xcode.
Next check: Install a compatible runtime or select an available destination from the same build environment.
The destination is listed but ineligible
What it suggests: The scheme or deployment target may not support it.
Next check: Read the ineligible reason and compare the target’s supported platforms and minimum OS.
Local command works but CI fails
What it suggests: Simulator names and UUIDs differ across machines.
Next check: Query destinations on the runner and avoid hardcoding a developer-machine UUID.
Why this happens
- The requested simulator or runtime is not installed.
- The scheme does not support that platform or the command uses another Xcode.
Still not working?
Pinning a simulator UUID from a developer machine into CI is fragile; query the runner’s actual destinations.
